Spotify celebrates 1 year in Argentina!

Spotify Argentina turns one year old today!
In the last 12 months, Argentinian users have streamed songs more than 711 million times, which corresponds to more than 48 million hours (or more than 5000 years) of continuous music. To put that in context: around 5000 years ago, the city of Troy was founded — and Buenos Aires wasn’t even on the map yet!

Taken together, the total number of streams for the top 5 songs of the year add up to 49 continuous years of music — all the way back to 1965, when Argentinian Rock was just getting off the ground in Bar La Cueva with Los Shakers, Pajarito Zaguri, Moris, Javier Martínez, Los Gatos and Tanguito.

Thank you to all of our users in Argentina for making Spotify part of your lives over the last year. Here’s to a new year full of lots of great music! To get started, here’s a playlist with the most shared songs of the year in Argentina!

Spotify Loves Football

Music for life. Football for life. Everything you need to soundtrack the beautiful game.

This game is so much more than a sport. Hoping to share our passion for football with our equally-obsessed users, we at Spotify have put together, a site dedicated to the inseparable relationship between music and the game. We have favorite tracks selected by football superstars like Wayne Rooney, Neymar, Kaká and David Luiz, as well as music superstars like Avicii, Shakira, Jennifer López or the Brazilian legend, Gilberto Gil -among many others.

We have playlists to help you through moments of anguish, drunken partying, or simply out-of-control, madcap joy. And we have travel tips, music primers, a regularly updated feature section, and playlists for all 32 teams, with songs chosen by you to represent your country in our Spotify Playlist Cup.

So bring on the national pride, the delirious screaming and the compulsive nail biting. Put on your favorite tracks and follow us all the way to the final. We’ve got a bad case of football fever.

Let the games begin.

Teens Jam Out at The Spotify Studio

Over forty teens opened the Spotify House at SXSW this year with The Spotify Studio, a series of music workshops we created just for them.

Teens from all over Austin, TX, participated in sessions like songwriting and music marketing, put together by the incredible teams at Girls Rock Camp, ReRoute Music, and Pacemaker.  The House buzzed as everyone made their own beats and wrote original songs.  Students Makalah Adams and Dustin Kelley shared their newly written songs with an impromptu performance.  In music marketing, they learned the basics of crafting an image as an artist, designed their own band logos, and created playlists of the music that inspires them.

During lunch, a panel of experts, like talent buyer Jack McFadden, from Austin City Limits Live, and David McDonough, from C3, joined us to talk about offstage careers in the music industry.  They shared some really valuable advice and helped show how you turn a love of music into a career, even if you decide not to be a performer. Student Darrel Harris said his main take-away from the career panel was, “I now know how important it is to get myself out there and expand my network.”

We asked these budding musicians to tell us what songs inspired them. Listen to their selections!

Spotiamp – Long live the Llama

Today marks the end of Winamp, one of the oldest and most important pieces of software in the history of digital music.

To honour the engineering skill and passion that goes into building wonderful software that millions of people enjoy we would like to share a small tribute to honour the great legacy of Winamp.

Spotiamp is a fully functional music player where you can login using your Spotify Premium account and stream music. We hope this will give you some nice memories of the days before Spotify!

Thank you Winamp – you really whipped the llama’s ass!

Let “Bad Blood” Bind Us Together

As lovers of music and technology, we’re psyched to partner with Virgin Records and Everlapse to participate in Bastille’s North American kick off. The album “Bad Blood” had a huge launch here, debuting at #11 on Billboard’s U.S. chart.

As an exciting first for Everlapse, they have expanded their platform to include the ability to add the Spotify player, which has created a way for Bastille fans to show the band they’ve got their backs — and each other’s — all while streaming “Bad Blood.”

Want to join in? Add a photo of yourself making the Bastille sign to their Everlapse clip. Hit play in the upper left to start listening to the album, then tap the green camera icon to add a photo of you making the band’s logo.

As more fans add the logo and share this clip, their photos will be added, showing the band and the world the force of the Bastille stormers.
