J Kash, Max Martin and Starrah Take Home Top Honors at Spotify’s Secret Genius Awards in Los Angeles

Hosted by Lizzo, Inaugural Awards Show Featured Electrifying Performances by Shawn Mendes, Halsey, PARTYNEXT DOOR and Erika Ender

Last night, Spotify celebrated the leading songwriters and producers behind some of today’s most successful songs at the inaugural Secret Genius Awards in Downtown Los Angeles. Hosted by Lizzo, the celebratory night was full of love, respect and mutual admiration for all those in the room, as the Secret Geniuses embraced and congratulated one another on their successes.

The night was full of dynamic performances, kicked off by the Zion Choir of Compton’s powerful rendition of Andra Day’s Rise Up. Erika Ender, co-writer of Despacito, followed, getting the crowd singing along to her stripped down rendition of the smash hit. Later in the night, Shawn Mendes was joined on stage by collaborators Teddy Geiger and Scott Harris for an acoustic version of Treat You Better, while PARTYNEXTDOOR took to the stage with guitarist Andrew Watt, who gave the crowd an electric guitar solo during Wild Thoughts. Halsey closed out the night with an emotional performance of Sorry with collaborator and Secret Genius honoree Greg Kurstin.

Known for hits such as We Don’t Talk Anymore – Charlie Puth, Don’t Wanna Know – Maroon 5, Swalla – Jason Derulo (feat. Nicki Minaj & Ty Dolla $ign), Ain’t Your Mama – Jennifer Lopez and more, J Kash took home the top honor of Secret Genius of the Year: Songwriter, presented to him by the prolific Babyface.

Producing hits such as Can’t Stop the Feeling – Justin Timberlake, Side to Side – Ariana Grande, Send My Love (To Your New Love) – Adele, Chained to the Rhythm – Katie Perry and more, receiving his award from Quincy Jones, Max Martin took home the top honor of Secret Genius of the Year: Producer.

Singer-songwriter and producer Starrah, had a big night taking home two honors, Secret Genius of the Year: Female and Secret Genius: Hip Hop, for her work on such smash hits including Fake Love – Drake and Needed Me – Rihanna.
