Nicky Jam (pictured above) and Enrique Iglesias were the biggest winners of the night at the 2016 Billboard Latin Music Awards on April 28, taking home seven awards each, including Hot Latin Song of the Year, Airplay Song of the Year, Digital Song of the Year, Streaming Song of the Year, and Latin Rhythm Song of the Year, all on the strength of their collaboration, “El Perdón.” The Latin urban hit is approaching 300 million streams on Spotify to date.
Mexican legend Juan Gabriel, who was honored with the special Billboard Star Award, took home five awards, including Tour of the Year, Top Latin Albums Artist of the Year (Male), and Latin Pop Albums Artist of the Year (Solo). His Los Dúo album also won for Top Latin Album of the Year, Latin and Pop Album of the Year. In a three-hour show themed around duets and unity among Latinos, Gabriel performed with Paty Cantú, Juanes, and Alejandro Fernandez, who himself took home a Hall of Fame Award in recognition of his decades-long career.
Balladeer Marco Antonio Solis was feted with a Lifetime Achievement Award while reggaeton pioneers Daddy Yankee and Don Omar shared the stage for a medley of their hits and each received the Industry Leader Award. For the full list of winners, visit Billboard.
