Share My Playlists

We present you the music selection that our friends from Sharemyplaylists have handpicked for this month.

Easy Like Sunday Mornings Vol.4

Our first must-hear mixtape this month comes in the shape of Kieron‘s latest, eagerly-anticipated edition of Easy Like Sunday Mornings. Volume four is brimming with mellow tunes, old and new, that will make any day feel like a lazy Sunday – Roy Ayers, Teddy Pendergrass, Maxwell, Ray Charles, Herb Alpert and many more.

My Name is Brian (and I’m awesome)

Without a shadow of a doubt, our playlist of the month is My Name is Brian (and I’m awesome) . Now, admittedly, that is a pretty poor title. But it’s true – Brian really is awesome. He’s created a mixtape that doubles as a job application – read the track titles in order. And guess what … Brian received job offers! Well done that man.

NME’s Best Songs Of The 60s

The good old NME is 60 this year! To mark the occasion, they’re celebrating with the best music from each decade of their lifetime. On this playlist, they count down the best tracks from the 1960s – from The Beatles to The Rolling Stones, Johnny Cash to Bob Dylan, The Stooges to The Velvet Underground, Otis Redding to Aretha Franklin and beyond.

Don Draper Seduction Music

Having a spot of bother with the opposite sex? Ask yourself this: What would Don do? And, more importantly, what would Don listen to while he’s doing it? The answer is, of course womanising and anything seductive and 60s. If you’re planning some womanising or indeed manising (that’s definitely a thing – don’t bother checking it) this month, these are the sultry sounds you need to help you on your way. Do it Donnystyle.

Jarvis Cocker’s Sunday Service

The last time SMP saw Jarvis Cocker, at T in the Park 2011, he proceeded to wipe his backside on notorious and now defunct British tabloid newspaper. It was strange and glorious dirty protest. We love him. He’s a national treasure. A musical genius. And his radio show is pretty cool, too. Check out the tunes he plays here.

Berlin techno

Next up, a killer collection of dancefloor-destroying, mind-bending, sub-troubling, party-starting, hands-in-the-air tunes. This is one of the best electronic music mixtapes we’ve heard in ages – a real must-hear weekend party playlist. Check out tunes from rising stars of the underground, like Russ Yallop, Maya Jane Coles and Art Department, alongside house legends, such as Marshall Jefferson, Larry Heard and Marco Carola.

Deutsche Elektronische Musik

Another favourite this month comes courtesy of Afront and his “loosely chronological” mixtape journeying through German electronic music – old-school and modern synthpop, futurepop, EBM and electro-industrial, ending with a selection of minimal synthpop, ambient and Kosmische Musik. A must-hear playlist.

Gilles Peterson Jukebox

SMP was saddened – no, devastated – to hear Gilles Peterson’s Radio 1 show has been cancelled. And we reckon grohs probably felt the same: “A selection of tracks that Gilles Peterson may have on his own jukebox,” goes the description to this mixtape. Thankfully, GP is back on BBC Radio 6 Music with bigger, better show. But this one’s still a must-hear for Gilles fans.

80 x Hip Hop in the 80’s

This mixtapes features 80 of the finest, most ground-breaking hip-hop records from the 80s. Everyone’s here. From Afrika Bambaataa to Slick Rick, Eric B & Rakim to RUN-DMC, Ice Cube to LL Cool J – over 10 hours of the finest rap music ever put to wax. If you’re into hip-hop and you don’t listen to this playlist in its entirety – all 80 tracks – consider our friendship over. Word.

New Releases 2012

Last but certainly not least, we have the playlist that is home to best new music in 2012, the SMP New Releases mixtape. We update this mixtape every week with the best new tracks on Spotify – subscribe for automatic updates. Added this month: Spiritualized, Graham Coxon, Orbital, Richard Hawley, The Futureheads, Plan B, Arcade Fire, Paul Weller and more. Lots more.

#MusicMonday playlist brought to you by @MonaFims

Our friend @MonaFims has this #MusicMonday‘s music recommendations.

First I would like to start with saying thank you for all the nice suggestions that you all have been sending me! Much appreciated! And now, to this week’s music.

The Norwegian indie band “HighasaKite” came out with a debut album in 2012. “All That Floats Will Rain”. There is a lot of really nice songs on this album and I have had a few of them in my Music Monday playlist before. We start this weeks Music Monday with their song “Indian Summer”. You should also check out “Son of A Bitch” and “Winners Don´t Come Easy”. All very good songs. I’m really looking forward to see “HighasaKite” live on festivals in Scandinavia this summer!

Next band out this week is “Firekites”. An Australian band formed from Newcastle, New South Wales. They play amazing acoustic music and I really like their song “Last Ships” from their first album “The Bowery”. Then time for indie pop! Mauro Remiddi known as “Porcelain Raft” is an Italian-born singer/songwriter. I like his dreamy songs and especially “Tip of your Tongue”

The last artist out this week is another Norwegian artist; “Mr Little Jeans”. She just came out with a new single called “Runaway”. If you never heard her sing before I recommend you also check out some of her earlier singles. I would start with “Rescue Song”. A very cute and catchy song!

#MusicMonday playlist brought to you by @MonaFims

Our friend @MonaFims has this #MusicMonday‘s music recommendations.

We start a brand new week with a Swedish pop rock band; “The Majority Says”. Their song “114” was made famous in a large television commercial, broadcasted in Scandinavia for the new Viasat Film channel. I love their dreamy and vulnerable vocal.

After a dreamy start we continue with a nice flashback from 2010. “I Blame Coco” with her single “Quicker”. And then time for a little dose of English indie rock; “The Wombats” with their song “Techno Fan”. Next one out is Los Angeles-based electro-pop duo “Uh Huh Her” with their song “Another Case” from their second album “Nocturnes”.

This weeks new finding is a band called “Electric Guest”. Their song “This Head I Hold” is very charming and catchy. I get the whole Motown retro feeling when listening.

The last one out this week an American indie rock band from Stillwater, Oklahoma. “Other Lives” with “Dark Horse” from their latest album “Tamer Animals”.

If you have song suggestion for next week’s playlist feel free to drop them in my Spotify Inbox.
