Spotify to add content from Alternative Distribution Alliance

We have some more labels news to update everyone on today, we’ve come to an agreement with Alternative Distribution Alliance (ADA), one of the leading indie labels in the U.S. to distribute their music on Spotify. We already have a deal for their European catalogue but now we’re excited to be getting their American catalogue as well.

ADA covers labels such as Sub Pop and New line and has artists such as Aimee Mann and Bad Religion signed. We hope to start getting the content in the near future and adding it to our catalogue.

Exclusive A Camp track and over 6000 new releases

Earlier this month A Camp released their newest album, Colonia, here in Sweden. Starting today, Spotify premium users in Sweden can listen to a bonus track from the album, Us And Them, which is not available anywhere else. This track is available exclusively for the next four weeks, after that it will be available to all Spotify users.

Along with the exclusive track we also made a general update to our catalogue and added over 6000 new releases today, to see a list of the new additions you can view this Google Doc. And as always some of the tracks listed my not be available in all regions.

Merlin network members

A lot of people have asked for specifics as to which smaller labels we have signed so I thought I’d take a few minutes and publish the list of labels that we have an agreement with under our deal with Merlin. Merlin is an aggregator of independent music that includes thousand of smaller labels from around the world.

This list is pretty long but if there’s a specific band or label you’re looking for you can see if Merlin covers them. The list is a Google Doc available here.

We haven’t received all the material from all the labels so it’s very possible that they’re listed here but not yet available, we hope to get more of the content in the coming days and weeks and will update as it arrives.

Spotify now available to everyone in the UK

We’re taking our first baby step to open up Spotify to a larger audience today. Up until now we’ve kept a close eye on controlling our user growth with invitations so that we don’t run into any problems and to ensure that everyone gets a really good music experience when they signup, so far so good.

So starting today people in the UK will no longer need an invitation to join Spotify, you can register for our free service directly from our website as always our premium, ad-free service is still available. However, we want to make sure that everyone who uses Spotify gets the same fast, uninterrupted experience so providing a stable service is our priority. If growth happens too fast and it starts affecting quality we may have to re-instate the invitation system, hopefully this won’t happen.

If everything goes well we hope to do the same in other countries in the future, but for now if you’re in the UK and have been looking for an invitation to join, the wait is over. Visit our homepage and join Spotify.

New Music update Feb 9th, 2009

We’ve made another music update today, there are now 1600 more albums on Spotify including Lily Allen’s latest, It’s Not Me, It’s You.

All these new albums are published in this Google Doc if you’re interested in seeing what we’ve added. And as always some releases may not be available in your region.

We’re still looking into better ways to publish updates both on the blog and within Spotify, so if think an Atom feed or some other file type would be better let me know and we’ll see what we can come up with.
