Spotify is set to host its first ever live music event in the UK this November at London’s Alexandra Palace. Who We Be Live promises to be a celebration of the best of urban, grime and hip hop from the UK and beyond, all under one roof, inspired by the Spotify playlist which features the very best in Rap and Grime.
The event, which takes place on Thursday 30th November at the iconic north London venue, will see some of the biggest names in urban music performing in front of some of their greatest fans on Spotify.
Who We Be is curated by Spotify’s in-house urban music team, led by Senior Editor, Austin Daboh, and is one of Spotify’s most listened-to playlists in the UK, with over 140,000 followers. The event will bring to the stage some of Who We Be’s most popular and exciting urban artists: Bugzy Malone, Cardi B, Dizzee Rascal, Giggs, J Hus and Stefflon Don, who between them have had over half a billion streams on Spotify.
Playing on the night is Manchester-born grime heavyweight Bugzy Malone who has cemented himself as a key player in the UK grime scene, producing hits including ‘Watch Your Mouth’ and his second EP ‘Facing Time’, which saw him storm the top ten.
Joining him is Cardi B, the US hip hop artist who is currently storming the Billboard Chart with her thunderous single ‘Bodak Yellow’.
Also performing will be pioneering grime and Mercury Award winning artist, Dizzee Rascal, who will bring huge energy with his iconic mix of grime, garage and hip-hop.
Fresh off the back of an incredible summer festival season, London rapper Giggs will light up the stage with tracks from ‘Landlord’, as well as collaboration tracks including ‘KMT’.
Also on the bill will be London’s latest superstar J Hus who will be performing his unique blend of rap, Afrobeats and bashment from his huge album ‘Common Sense’.
Last but definitely not least, Birmingham-born grime queen and this year’s most popular up-and-coming female MC, Stefflon Don, will be performing her amazing new song ‘Hurtin’ Me’ from her eagerly anticipated debut album.
The event marks an exciting milestone for Spotify, not only moving into the live music arena – working together with promoters SJM – but also continuing its investment and support within UK urban music. Spotify has played a major part in promoting new rap, grime and urban talent, with artists such as Bugzy Malone starting out on the New Music Friday playlist, progressing onto Who We Be and then ending up on Hot Hits UK – the UK’s largest pop playlist.
Austin Daboh, Senior Editor at Spotify, said: “Spotify has worked tirelessly to support British talent over the last year, and we’re proud to have played a key role in the success of various urban genres such as grime and rap. Who We Be Live at Alexandra Palace is Spotify’s first ever concert in the UK and will bring together some of the biggest and most exciting artists under one roof for an unforgettable night.”
From tomorrow, Saturday 9th September, Spotify will be emailing fans of the artists performing (that is, the fans who listen the most actively to those artists), and followers of the Who We Be playlist in the UK, with an opportunity to purchase presale tickets.
General tickets will be available at 10am on Monday 11th September from www.whowebe.com.
