This is the first in a series of features introducing Nashville’s very own rock n roll revivalists – Mona. Check back on our blog in the coming weeks for more info, music and exclusive videos.
Mona are Sun Studio’s Million Dollar Quartet rebooted. As lead singer Nick Brown puts it, they draw on “the golden age of the United States – the James Dean, Marilyn Monroe type stuff.” Arriving in the UK for the first time in late 2010 they were quickly embraced by many of the music industry’s tastemakers – without having released a song they were included in the NME’s top 50 bands of 2010 , appeared on Later With… Jools Holland and found themselves tipped in a whole host of music magazines.

Having made their mark with Mercury nominated debut ‘Voices Of Animals And Men’ and follow up ‘Superabundance’, Young Knives were already in possession of critical and commercial success and a well deserved reputation for jaw dropping live shows. With ‘Ornaments From The Silver Arcade’, the third studio album from the trio, their desire to move beyond the familiar became a driving force of the writing and recording process.
This highlight of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra’s London concert season will involve a full symphony orchestra, eight soloists, two huge choruses and a children’s choir. We have two pairs of tickets to give away to Spotify Premium subscribers for this wonderful event courtesy of our friends at The Royal Albert Hall.
To enter simply post a link to your favourite Mahler piece as well as answer the question – Which symphony is Mahlers longest piece of work?
We’ll pick and notify winners later this month, good luck!
Jonathan Jeremiah, whose timeless songs and soulful voice have marked him out as a songwriter with a rare talent, introduces himself with the release of his debut album “A Solitary Man”.
Jonathan Jeremiah’s music comes from a world far away from the quick fix, pre packaged production line. The North Londoner has spent the best part of a decade defining a sound rooted in a rich legacy of bespoke English folk and confessional soul. Jonathan recently appeared on Later With Jools a full five months ahead of the album release giving a stunning solo acoustic performance of one of the album’s many standouts “How Half-Heartedly We Behave”. He is also supporting Katie Melua on her tour in April.
The result is a beautiful, soulful record that would not look out of place if was recorded at any time in the last fifty years. Spotify listeners can hear the whole record in all it’s glory now. Listeners can also be in with a chance of winning a weekend for two at a Malmaison or Hotel Du Vin of your choice. All you need to do is if you like the album, tell people about it with the #asolitaryman on Twitter to enter the competition. Terms & Conditions

As an exclusive – Spotify Premium users will be the first to hear the remix of Young Blood by Magic Johnson. For your chance to win a premium account head over to their contest site.
Formed in New Zealand, in various Auckland bedrooms The Naked & Famous took the DIY approach, writing and recording the majority of their music in those very same suburban houses. Their single ‘Young Blood’ became the first #1 debut in the New Zealand singles chart for three years as well as the first kiwi song to do so since the early 1990s. Their album soon followed, shooting to the top of the charts in September 2010.
Produced by Jay Joyce, the album is the band’s follow up to their 2009 self-titled debut, which has now sold over 500,000 copies worldwide. ‘Thank You Happy Birthday’ entered the US Billboard Charts at #2 back in January and the first single to be taken from the album ‘Shake Me Down’ has been at #1 for over 5 weeks in the US Alternative Radio Billboard charts. Currently A list on Radio 1, the single has also been going down a storm over here in the UK. The album has so far received 4 stars from the likes of Uncut and Q and was Album of the Week last week with Huw Stephens filling in for Zane Lowe on Radio 1.
