Music catalogue updated with 184,795 tracks

Amid all the mobile news we have recently updated our music catalogue and I wanted to let you know about it. We added 16,460 albums and singles a few days back, in total 184,795 new tracks are now available.

A few highlights include:

It’s a big list so I’ve broken out releases from CDBaby into one sheet and all other releases into a second Google doc. As with every update not all albums listed may be available in your country and some tracks previously available may no longer be playable due to regional restrictions.

Let us know what gems you find in this update.

  1. Nice, keep up the good work.
I’m just wondering what happened to MUSE – ‘Black Holes & Revelations’? Every other album by MUSE is available and they have always been on the same label. Suddenly, in the latest update, ‘Black Holes’ disappeared. Why?

  2. Hi Spotify!

Big fan here. I have a question about your catalogue updates- I submitted an album for inclusion on Spotify through Ditto Music about two months ago, and it’s still not up! The Ditto people assured me it’s been sent out long ago. Could anyone please comment on how long it takes to get albums uploaded / how backed up you guys are with new material? I keep checking with every new update but so far no luck!

Thanks and cheers on all the success with the mobile apps!

  3. @eule29 – We have a pretty big backlog of tracks to add so if Ditto sent it to us then it will get up so enough. Thanks for the patience.

  4. Andres, thanks for the reply! After a few months I was worried something had gone wrong with my submission in either the Ditto camp or the Spotify camp. If I may ask another question, is there any way to contact Spotify to verify an upcoming release, or maybe a timeframe you could give me that would signal that something had gone wrong? Is two months normal?

  5. Just an idea for the list that you provide with all the releases on. Perhaps it would be an idea to include the genre, as I think more people would find new bands that way instead of looking for bands they know they like.

  6. About the regional restrictions, it’s getting more and more difficult to accept them. One of the reason why the digital music copy worldwide mayhem grew so fast was because of these stupid and old style regional restrictions… If the music industry cannot change and make sure that their tunes and albums are available worlwide at anytime (via Spotify or other platforms), I for one will quickly get back to the old way. It’s illegal but it works. It’s more work but it’s cheaper.

For example, this album wich I have been searching for long time, since the movie came out in France, well, is not available in France:

Probably because France is covered by this one:

But that cannot be accepted. That shouldn’t be. I don’t care about the whys. It’s there, I should be able to listen to it, period. Music have crossed borders years ago now, Music industry really have to understand this now. Last chance.

  7. And please, as i have said previously, get a system like in Steam, with the accounts that is. So that you can add friends and see what they listen to, see their page with lists ans so on,. That would make it complete!

  8. @ ownr_alex, get a last fm account. It can be used in conjunction with spotify and would probably do more than an in system service built into spotify would.

  9. Where can you see how many tracks that are available in total? I think this should be visible somewhere i the client because this is very interesting to keep track on. A growing number will make the subscribers more motivated to renew their subscriptions and perhaps also increas the interest for labels that have not been added.

  10. Where are the knife albums ? Guys, they’re from Stockholm ! :)
I only found one or two songs, and their bio.
On their page there’s are albums from a metal group called “knife” mixed with some songs of “the knife”….
    I’m sad now…
    Hope it will be fixed.

  11. Good to see G-Stone Recordings added to the catalogue: downtempo-dub from the likes of Tosca, Peace Orchestra, and Kruder & Dorfmeister

  12. Quick question here guys:

Does the Iphone app work with the spotify day pass? Because I want to test it but don’t want to purchase a whole month in case it doesn’t work properly.

  13. Sadly it does not work with the day pass. But i dont think theres any need to try it. It works perfectly well, i dont even bother connecting to my wi-fi as the 3g connection work’s so well. If you like it on the PC, you should like it on the iphone. Best app so far imo.

  14. @feltan, This is a late reply but ‘black holes and revalations’ is still there. Not sure if they added it back in but i seen it last night too.

  15. @chriso132, Hmm, that’s strange. I don’t see it anymore. :(
Maybe it’s removed from the Swedish users?

  16. @chriso132, The songtitles is not red anymore but when I click on the album it says ” This album is currently not available”. :S

  17. On every spotify update, I pick my favourites and tweet about them on the @Onthespotify twitter-account (mostly indie pop/folk/electronica/experimental). Lots of great stuff this time. My favourites include the new Pastels/Tenniscoats-album, Hope Sandoval, Taken By Trees, Styrofoam, Gentle Waves, Kings of Convenience… Thank you Spotify!

  18. Hey!
Could you add all of Tupacs albums. I know a lot of us would appreciate that. Here are the albums I would like you to add:

    2pacalypse Now
    Strictly 4 my N.I.G.G.A.Z.
Thug Life, Me against the World
    All Eyez on me
Makaveli: The Don Killuminato: 7 Day Theory
R U Still Down? (Remember me)
    Greatest Hits
    Until The End of Time
    Better Dayz
    The Resurrection

  19. I really appreciate this service and what you guys are doing here. Spotify is seriously wonderful. But I was thinking, I hear that everything is only available in the UK. And mobile versions of your software is only for premium subscribers. I guess that makes sense, since the money has to come from somewhere besides little Skype ads in the corner, but I just want to point out that pretty much all the platforms and hardware and all that that you guys are using are American. A lot from Silicon Valley, but still the Android phones with google software, iPhones, Macs, etc. Shouldn’t you just cut us a teensy little slack? :D

Nah, just kidding, I know this is still in beta and that would be hard to do. But when is Spotify coming out of beta and into the world?

  20. Why have releases from Eyeball Records (Sleep Station, New London Fire, etc) been removed? I wrote Eyeball Records to complain about it, and they have no idea why it’s been removed. Usually things are removed because the label requests it, but in this case the label itself has no idea why it’s releases have gone.

Either way thanks for new Frank Turner and old Phosphorescent.

  21. @jamesdean – My records show that Warner (who seems to distribute their music) sent an update which removed it. Eyeball might want to check with Warner why it was done (or if they’ve switched digital distributors)?

  22. @andres – I known you’re only trying to help, but this whole situation with music licensing and automated removals by the record labels just makes me so angry (you have probably noticed this by now through all my posts here and in the forum).

Why should we as consumers need to know anything about who is the “digital distributor” for a record label that has artists that we like?

The record industry continues to shoot itself in the foot (that foot must be getting quite painful by now ;-) ).

How is this whole situation with track removals and restrictions advantageous to customers or any of the involved parties on the record industry side who are trying to make money? All it results in is consumers losing access to the music they like and no one on the music industry side of things making any money out of Spotify. What’s the point in that?

The record industry should allow Spotify to stream the tracks and record the number of plays and then payment can be made later when the record industry and publishers have decided who has the rights and who needs to be paid.

Holding back content just because of administrative bureaucracy by the record industry helps no one. Customers don’t get to listen to the music they like, bands don’t get paid, record labels don’t get paid, publishers don’t get paid and lastly Spotify doesn’t make any money.
    Dumb, dumb, dumb!!!

  23. Spotify rocks…it really does, and I absolutely love it… but it would be even better if you could rate songs – I know the popularity column sort of does that, but if you could rate songs, and have a top rated – a bit like iTunes, that would be cool :D Also it would be cool to have another column with the date of the release of the tracks… Anyaway, just my thoughts… keep up the good work!! :)

  24. I cant believe that even if we are in the year 2009 and big multinational recordlabels still have diffrent rules depending on what country you are in. The Internet has no boarders, no passports etc. Release all the music to Spotify. Metallica that goes to you to, live a little.. you have money as it is.

  25. Awesome list. Although, want to see some more Deadmau5 tracks on spotify! You got some tracks, but not all of them. Whats up with that?

  26. Great additions, only thing that I’m missing now, when trying to create my perfect spotify playlist, is George Harrison. I love spotify, but if you add george I would love it even moore.

  27. Sorry to be picky but can you put Mini Viva – Left My Heart In Tokyo to the What’s New page (UK Spotify)? Thanks. :P

Anyway, I’m surprised Humbug by Arctic Monkeys is available now on Spotify. I might listen to it. :O

  28. You guys really have been busy recently! iPhone App, Android Client, S60 App in development, and to top it all off, over 100k new releases added!

Im with “funmaker11” on adding Left My Heart In Tokyo to the What’s new page. Fantastic song. People need to hear it.

  29. Hi there spotify, i’ve had ur program for quite a while now and i must say it’s the best source of music available to me, and it saves me from clogging up my comp with music i only listen to once, the only quarm i have at this moment is that i can’t find 12 Stones – Anthem For The Underdog using your search bar which is a bit disappointing because it is a great tune to listen to.

  30. Merci pour la découverte de l’album “Break Up”… Je ne savais même pas que Scarlett Johansson faisait de la musique.

  31. I wish there was a way to just browse the music catalog like in itunes. Sometimes I don’t know what I want to listen to. Also, the search function needs some work.

  32. Yeah, its funny the music industry is so stupid about restriction. And then have the stomach to ask, why people copy their songs. Its like asking yourself: “Hey, i poured gasoline in my house, on every floor, and then i wanted to light a match and torch it. But why did the whole house burn down?”. :)

Still, spotify is on the right track and most songs i listen to are here, but it is very annoying having songs dissapear from playlists you’ve created!

  33. Muse’s Black Holes… not available for me neither, BAH HUMBUG! Return it immediately pls.

Oh well, at least they have spotify:album:3WsvfZzGo1vOLqhnVioqFn

  34. What is the problem with the sound of Geto Boys and Scarface? It’s sounds like they are ripped from vinyl with -8 pitch or something… There are some other releases which have the same problem.

  35. HI!

is it posible to get: Taio Cruz – Driving Me Crazy/Crazy Girl on Spotify, its just awesome! makes me want to dance :D I hope this it posible. Sara

  36. I’d Be Very Thankful if you could add Blessthefall’s new album Witness,

    ,Marcus Tyborn
