Maybe you want to see a gig this weekend? Check out the Songkick app to find out if any of the artists in your library are performing near you. Then get your hands on tickets with a few clicks.

The apps you’ll discover over the next few days are only the beginning. We’ll surprise you, and probably be surprised ourselves, with many more new and wonderful experiences that will make Spotify even better.

How do you add apps?

Spotify introduces music to your social life

Today, September the 22nd, is a big day for everyone who loves music.

Music is one of the most social things there is. That’s why for the past couple of years, we’ve been obsessed with what the next generation music service should look like.

We knew that the service had to be free to draw people away from piracy. Helping them to listen to even more music. To do that, we also knew that the service would have to be inherently social. There couldn’t be a better place to do this than Facebook.

We’re very excited to have been asked by Mark Zuckerberg to showcase this new experience at the f8 conference in San Francisco today. Take a look at these amazing new features in our video.

You’ll now start seeing new music posts and play buttons all over your newsfeeds. Hit a play button and the music starts. Right there. Spotify fires up to give you a new soundtrack to your social life. Check out your new Music Dashboard and your real-time ticker to discover the music that’s trending with your friends.

This integration with Facebook will help everyone to discover more free music than ever before. Thanks to our unrivalled, truly free service, users can just hit play to enjoy the music, no hassle, no gimmicks; month after month after month.

We hope many more people can enjoy the musical journeys that this integration will bring. Like the thrill of looking through a friend’s music collection and finding a track that blows your mind. Or sending birthday playlists across the planet.

Having free access to music on Facebook also gives us an opportunity to express ourselves in a new way. We’re proud to share pictures of our lives. Now we can say something about ourselves through music. “Hi I’m Daniel – here’s some Daft Punk.”

We know that Spotify’s users who connect to Facebook listen to more music on a weekly basis. They listen to a wider variety of music – in fact we have more than 400 million playlists created in Spotify now. Because these users are more social, they’re more engaged. Because they’re more engaged, they’re more than twice as likely to pay for music.

Social discovery on Facebook means that we’re bringing people back to paying for music again. And that‘s how the brilliant artists who create this music can continue creating it for us to enjoy.

Enjoy the soundtrack to your social life!

The beginning of the month is always a particularly exciting time here at SMP Towers, as our favourite monthly mixtapes make their way from your brains to our hompage. The granddaddy of all of our regular playlists is The Soundtrack to…, by Phil Wilce. The best of a brilliant collection of new music, as far as we’re concerned, comes in the shape of Maverick Sabre, The Horrors, The Chemical Brothers, Toddla T, Sbtrkt and Tom Vek.

August 2011 – Acid Jazz Hispano

The Acid Jazz Hispano series seems to get better and better each month, turning in the coolest cuts of funky, jazzy, soulful, housey, hip-hop beats. This month is no exception. Featured here: Mark Ronson feat. Kasabian, Los Amigos Invisibles, Prince, Roy Ayers… need we go on? The Soundtrack to May 2011

We hit the ground running with the biggest of mixtape monthlies, The Soundtrack to… May’s edition is a suitably joyous symphony of eclecticism: there’s the devastatingly ace Don’t Sit Down ‘Cause I’ve Moved Your Chair from Arctic Monkeys; the long overdue return of Tom Vek on the infectious A Chore; the only British MC you need in your life, Ghostpoet with Survive It; and the singer-songwriter everyone’s talking about, Ed Sheeran on The A Team. All these and more await you in the best monthly round-up of fresh music you’ll find anywhere on the web.

New Releases – June 2011

Allow us to introduce to you our brand new, er ,New Releases playlist. You know that half-proselytizing, half-misanthropic blog post we do, Singles Club? Yeah you do, it’s the one where we say stuff about how listening to Jennifer Lopez makes you question whether we are "the lowest ebb in human history." Yeah, well that. You can listen to all the tracks we review on that, as well as the very best new release on Spotify, each and every month by clicking here. Don’t forget to subscribe!

Busy P Presents…

Ed Banger records got joined SMP this month, bringing with them a smorgasbord of mixtapes from their incredible roster of DJs and producers. This one’s from their head honcho, the top boy, the main man, Busy P. Not only is Pedro Winter an incendiary DJ in his own right, in Daft Punk he managed arguably the biggest dance music act of all time for over ten years – shifting six millions albums in the process – and, amazingly, he’s still only 34 years old. Including a handful of his own productions, his mixtape also features Metronomy, Panda Bear, The Strokes, James Blake and more.

Spotify says hello to the iPod

At Spotify it’s always been our mission to provide you with the best all-round music experience on the planet. For Spotify Premium subscribers, a huge part of that experience is taking your playlists with you wherever you go. However, for the rest of our users, listening to their favourite playlists on the move hasn’t been possible.

You’ve been telling us how much you love discovering, sharing and talking about music in Spotify – and you’ve created well over 200 million playlists to prove it. But you’ve also said you’re listening to a huge amount of music on your iPods, and that getting your Spotify playlists onto them as MP3s has been a serious hassle, forcing you to juggle multiple music players. That’s until now…

As of today, Spotify is making it possible for everyone to take their playlists with them in one lean, green music machine.

New features include:

  • Manage your iPod in Spotify! For the first time, seamlessly manage any iPod classic, iPod nano and iPod shuffle in Spotify. You’ve spent untold hours putting together your own mix-tape masterpieces on your computer and want to take them with you, but without the trouble of having to buy each track separately, switching music players or breaking the bank? Then look no further. Spotify’s new MP3 download service makes it possible to own your playlists in one easy step. By introducing a range of MP3 bundles, we’ve been able to offer you some of the most competitive prices available – from as little as 50p per song.
  • Spotify Mobile app now available to all! iPod integration was your biggest request, but there are also a lot of Spotify Free users out there who are iPhone and Android phone owners. You asked for the ability to buy your MP3 playlists and sync to your phones. So we’ve got you covered too…As of today, everyone can download the Spotify Mobile iPhone & Android apps to wirelessly sync your MP3 playlists in Spotify from your computer to your phone. Fire up your mobile app and see your phone appear in the ‘Devices’ section of the Spotify sidebar, ready to rock and roll. No cables required! And did we mention it’s now possible to wirelessly sync these playlists to your iPod touch?

Now everyone can own their favourite Spotify playlists to take wherever they want. Heading out for a run or off on a trip? Buying the songs you want to hear has never been quicker, easier or more affordable.

All new features will begin being rolled out to all users from today as part of an automatic update. Be sure to give us a spin!
