Spotify missing your favorite artists? You can help

Spotify has deals with the major record labels as well as some of the large independent aggregators like Merlin but there are still lots of labels around the world which we don’t have deals with yet. Our content team is constantly working to sign new deals and get music from our current partners but it’s hard for them to contact every label and artist individually.

So how do you know if your favorite artist will be available on Spotify? First you can find out what label the artist is on with Discogs, an excellent resource for finding music information. Then have a look at the labels we have signed, if the artist is covered by one of the deals then it’s likely they’ll get added to our catalogue in the near future. We’re currently adding about 10,000 tracks a day from our current deals.

If they’re not a part of one of our current deals then the way you can help us is to contact the label or artists and let them know you want to hear their music on Spotify. We’re ready and willing to sign any label and they can contact our content team by emailing content@spotify.com.

Spotify music catalogue updated with 5,000 releases

We have another update of our music catalogue to let you know about. We’ve added over 5,000 albums and singles to Spotify today which adds up to almost 50,000 new tracks now available. This is part of our ongoing process of getting the latest new releases into Spotify as well as incorporating large portions of the back catalogues from labels which we are still missing.

On top of these new releases we still have the exclusive new U2 album available for listening if you haven’t checked it out yet.

For a full listing of all the new albums added today you can check out this Google Doc. As always, some of the tracks added today may not be available in your region.

Starting Sunday night users in the UK and Spain will be able to listen to the new album, No Line On The Horizon, exclusively on Spotify. Then starting Monday Spotify Premium users in Sweden, Finland and Norway will be able to do the same. Spotify signs licensing deal with INgrooves

Our music content team has been hard at work again and today we have another exciting announcement. We’ve signed an agreement with INgrooves, a leading provider of digital distribution to the independent music community, to add their catalogue of about 250,000 tracks to Spotify. The INgrooves catalogue includes artists like Dolly Parton, The Crystal Method, Andrew Bird, Too $hort, and Thievery Corporation. We hope to start getting content from INgrooves in the coming weeks and start adding it to Spotify. For more info you can visit www.INgrooves.com.

Our catalogue continues to grow every week and with deals like this one we still have a large amount of music to add to the catalogue. Each week we add thousands of albums, some brand new and others from the back catalogues, so make sure you check often if one of your favorite bands is currently missing as it’s very possible that they’ll be added in the future.

Spotified CD collection and some other community sites

Quite a few Spotify related sites have appeared since we launched in October, I’ve previously mentioned a number of them which are dedicated to sharing playlists but there are lots of other sites that talk about Spotify or have used Spotify in interesting ways.

This morning a user posted his Spotified CD Collection on the blog which I thought was amazing and really creative. What he’s done is he’s taken a digital picture of his CD shelf and then linked each jewel case to that artist in Spotify. So now he can sit and look at his CD collection online and decide what to listed to but instead of sticking the actual CD into a player you launched the album on Spotify, so cool.

Some other fun sites that have appeared recently include: Spotinews, which highlights new additions to our catalogue, Spotify Search which is an addon for Firefox to lets you find music from any web page in Spotify and a web page that finds new albums recently added to Spotify that match the top 50 artists from your Last.fm profile.

We love stuff like this so if you’ve done something creative with Spotify please let us know, we’d like to see it and share it with everyone.

Spotify to add classical content from Naxos

naxos.pngI’m pleased to let you know that we’ve signed an agreement with Naxos, one of the world’s leading classic music labels, to bring a huge selection of classical music to Spotify. The agreement with Naxos will give us over 100,000 new tracks to add to the classical genre.

One of our goals has always been to connect people to their favorite music and adding classical music from Naxos takes us one step closer to this goal and we couldn’t be happier. We hope to start getting material from Naxos in the coming months and will post the new releases when they are available.

Spotify music catalogue updated with 15,000 releases

Last night we updated our music catalogue with close to 15,000 albums and singles which adds more than 160,000 tracks to the catalogue. Some of the additions are brand new, like M. Ward’s latest release which came out yesterday, others are part of the back catalogue, which we’re adding to all the time. We still have a lot of music to add to our growing catalogue so keep an eye on the blog for the all latest releases.

To see the full listing of everything added have a look at this Google Doc. As always some of the releases may not be available in your country.
